Don't get me wrong, diabetes can definitely suck. Although, once I learned how to stop letting my type one diabetes control me, everything in my life changed. GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS!
I’m Simone Moore.

I’m a book reading, adventure-seeking, world traveling, type one diabetic who believes in living limitlessly.

I was diagnosed with type one diabetes on December 18, 1996 at the age of 13.  I already had an inclination of what my pediatrician was about to inform us of, but nothing could ever prepare me for all the emotions I felt after hearing those words. My life had barely begun, and it already felt like it was over. And despite all the encouragement and positivity from my mother and pediatrician, it fell upon deaf ears.

Months later I attended diabetes camp and met other type one diabetics dealing with my same new normal. My time there was life-changing. The things I learned and witnessed made me realize I could do so much more if I kept my blood sugars under control. But even though I knew what to do, I had trouble figuring out how to do it. I struggled through my teenage years, feeling that everything I read put diabetes in a one-size-fits-all box.

It wasn’t until I attended college and got my first Endocrinologist that I truly saw the light. She changed me from NPH & Regular insulins to Lantus & Humalog to allow me more freedom in my mealtimes. She taught me how to test how different foods affected me & find patterns in how my blood sugar changed with them.

Over the last 15 years, I have focused on various nutrition programs, lifestyle management, physical activity, and self-management of my own diabetes, as well as others. And through all this, I’ve learned that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution to your diabetes management. Many factors contribute to changes in how your blood sugar reacts to food, exercise, and stress, but having a plan of action helps you know how to pivot when things don’t go as planned.

By following this philosophy, I have been able to live limitlessly. From visiting over 15 countries to climbing the bridge in Auckland, New Zealand on a solo trip - I now blend my nursing background with my over 20 years of experience as a type one diabetic in order to help other diabetics know that diabetes does not define you.
